Doda Police claims to have arrested four persons involved in smuggling of forest produce. As per the press statement issued by SSP Doda Mohammad Arif Rishu, acting on the basis of reliable information regarding extraction of forest produce in Bhagwah Forests and further transportation/ smuggling of forest produce for illegal gains by some persons, laid a naka near Akramabad, Doda and intercepted a TATA Sumo JK02AY-0788. During search,07 bags weighing about 175 kilogram of forest produce namely (Nagshatri) having reportedly monetary value of approximately 4 Lacs in shady market was seized from the vehicle and all the (04) persons who were reportedly involved in the illegal trade and were in possession of same in the vehicle were arrested on spot and case FIR No 146/2013 U/S 379/109RPC and 6 Forest Act was registered at Police Station Doda against the accused. During the course of preliminary investigation, Doda police said that the extraction of forest produce has reportedly been done at the behest of some forest officials, which is being investigated. Police also did not rule out more arrest in the case.
It is pertinent to mention here that Doda Police has started a tirade against the extraction / illegal trade of the forest produce after consistent reports were received to this effect. A week ago in a similar case, two persons were arrested along with 30 kg of forest produce (Nagshatri).
