According to the Ministry’s reply to Unstarred Question No. 973, 373 Primary Health Centres (PHCs), 14 Community Health Centres (CHCs) and 13 District Hospitals (DHs) in JK had AYUSH services co-located as of December 31, 2025, based on the NHM Management Information System database.

The Union Government said the co-location model is intended to give patients access to different systems of medicine through a single-window arrangement. In JK, AYUSH doctors working under NHM have also received regular capacity-building and training in areas including Yoga, Panchkarma/regimenal therapies and Ksharsutra. Free essential Ayurvedic and Unani medicines, equipment and therapy units have also been provided at co-located facilities, according to the Ministry.

The Ministry said JK has also been approved 523 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AYUSH) under the National AYUSH Mission, through the upgrading of existing AYUSH dispensaries. The Union Government said the UT had reported increased beneficiary footfall at these centres following their conversion, with services including Prakriti identification, Yoga, medicinal-plant awareness, healthy lifestyle practices and basic OPD interventions.

The figures reported by JK include 91,518 Yoga sessions conducted at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and at community level. A total of 3,27,006 people underwent Community-Based Assessment Checklist surveys, while 2,09,867 were screened for diabetes and 3,00,093 for hypertension. The Ministry said 2,35,794 people also underwent Prakriti Parikshan.

On research and quality control, the Ministry said the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI), Jammu, under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, has undertaken research covering clinical trials, medicinal plants, pharmacovigilance, tribal healthcare and documentation of local health traditions, among other areas, during the past three years.

The Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM), Srinagar, a peripheral unit of the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine, is engaged in pre-clinical and clinical research, drug standardisation, medicinal-plant surveys and cultivation, and pharmacovigilance. It also undertakes quality control and standardisation of Unani medicines and validates classical and pharmacopoeial formulations for safety and efficacy, the Ministry said.

The Union Government said quality control and pharmacovigilance of AYUSH medicines in JK fall under the Drugs and Food Control Organization, JK, with no separate AYUSH Drug Controlling and Licensing Authority in the UT.

Nationally, as of 31 December 2025, NHM supported the co-location of AYUSH services in 13,249 health facilities, comprising 6,302 PHCs, 3,191 CHCs, 475 DHs and 3,281 other health facilities. A total of 25,322 AYUSH doctors and 5,666 AYUSH paramedics had been deployed in States and Union Territories with NRHM funding support.

The Ministry said the country’s AYUSH drug quality-assurance framework includes regulatory provisions under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and Drugs Rules, 1945. It has also approved 118 private Drug Testing Laboratories across States and UTs, while 34 Drug Testing Laboratories are available in States and UTs for testing legal samples collected by Drug Inspectors.

The national pharmacovigilance network comprises one National Pharmacovigilance Coordination Centre, five Intermediary Pharmacovigilance Centres and 97 Peripheral Pharmacovigilance Centres. The Ministry launched the online Ayush Suraksha portal on May 30, 2025 to facilitate reporting of suspected adverse drug reactions and misleading or objectionable advertisements involving AYUSH medicines.

The Ministry said it has prepared an Ayush Policy Roadmap covering infrastructure, education and training, human resources, healthcare delivery, research and development, manufacturing, drug regulation, medicinal plants, international cooperation and the sector’s wider contribution to the economy and holistic healthcare.

The information was provided by Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH Prataprao Jadhav in the Rajya Sabha on July 28, 2026.
