SRINAGAR: National Conference leader Tanvir Sadiq on Tuesday accused PDP president Mehbooba Mufti of “throwing her own MLA under the bus” to contain the fallout from her recent remarks and called for an unconditional apology to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a post on X, Sadiq alleged that Mufti initially shifted the responsibility for the controversy to PDP MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra but later contradicted him publicly.
The NC chief spokesperson and Zadibal MLA said Mufti’s remarks were unambiguous and claimed that people across Jammu and Kashmir had been appalled by them. He said she should apologise to those who were hurt, especially victims of pellet injuries.
Sadiq also referred to Mufti’s earlier “Doodh and Toffee” remark and called for an apology over that statement. He questioned whether calling her latest comments a slip of the tongue meant that her earlier remarks reflected her actual position.
He further criticised the PDP’s past alliance with the BJP and said Mufti should apologise for bringing the party to power in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sadiq alleged that Mufti’s subsequent statements were an effort to shift attention away from the controversy over her original remarks.
