SRINAGAR: More than 41 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds have suffered injuries during a fresh attack by the Israeli army near a food aid site in Rafah, the southern Gaza Strip.
As per Al Jazeera report, the Health Ministry in Gaza says an “unprecedented” number of starving Palestinians are pouring into hospitals across the besieged territory.
The World Food Programme (WFP) said thousands of Palestinians in Gaza are on the “verge of catastrophic hunger,” with one in three people in the enclave not eating for days at a time.
Palestinian medical sources reported, according to Al Qahera News Channel, that in the past 24 hours, 41 killed and hundreds of injured ones were transferred to Gaza Strip hospitals.
Mohammad Abu Salmiya, the director of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, said patients were “suffering from stress and memory loss resulting from severe hunger.” The Palestinian Ministry of Health said unprecedented numbers of starving people of all ages were arriving at emergency departments with extreme exhaustion and fatigue. It said hundreds were “emaciated” and at risk of death due to malnutrition, as per BBC report.
More than 900 desperate and hungry Gazans have been killed in recent weeks trying to fetch food, with most deaths linked to private aid hubs run by the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), the UN Human Rights Office said on Friday.
Deaths of people waiting for handouts in huge crowds near aid distribution centres have become a regular occurrence, with the Palestinian authorities blaming Israeli fire, AFP reports.
Israel’s war on Gaza has so far killed at least 59,667 people and wounded 139,974, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led October 7, 2023 attacks, and more than 200 were taken captive.
