SRINAGAR: With the lockdown extended to May 31, the fast mutating Covid19 virus continues sending flocks to the hospitals as the infection spreads. In the last 24 hours Jammu and Kashmir lost 48 people as fresh 3408 cases were detected across 20 districts of the erstwhile state.

Kashmir lost 18 citizens and Jammu 30 in the last 24 hours.

But what is rarely being seen is that more people return home from hospitals fully recovered than the new tally of infections. In the last 24 hours, as many as 4117 people recovered thus reducing the number of active cases to 49136. The recoveries included 1623 cases in Jammu and 2494 in Kashmir.

Now the death toll of Covid19 in Jammu and Kashmir is 3513 people including 1844 in Kashmir and 1669 in Jammu.

As many as 16 deaths took place in Jammu city and three in Srinagar city, the information revealed by the government said.

The district-wise details suggest that Kashmir lost five citizens in Anantnag, three in Pulwama and two each in Baramulla and Shopian and one each n Bandipore, Kupwara and Budgam.

Apart from 16 deaths reported from Jammu city, the region lost four citizens in Rajouri, three in Kathua, two each in Doda, Samba, and one each in Poonch, Reasi and Ramban.

In the last 24 hours, officials said 3408 new Covid-19 positives were reported from across Jammu and Kashmir. Of them, Srinagar alone accounted for 509. Jammu, the other capital of the erstwhile state reported 490 cases.

Of the new cases detected in the last 24 hours, Kashmir accounts for 2157 cases against 1251 of the Jammu division.

In Kashmir, the new cases include 237 from Baramulla, 273 from Budgam, 175 from Pulwama, 202 from Kupwara, 224 from Anantnag, 112 from Bandipora, 132 from Ganderbal, 241 from Kulgam, and 52 from Shopian.

From Jammu, officials said Udhampur reported 150, Rajouri 119, Doda 43, Kathua 136, Samba 81, Kishtwar 15, Poonch 55, Ramban 128, and Reasi 27.

Right now, Jammu and Kashmir has 49136 active cases, which includes 28937 in Kashmir 20199 in Jammu. It means Kashmir has almost double the active cases in comparison to Jammu.
