SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Saturday granted protection to a interfaith couple, after the woman alleged that her family members threaten them. The woman has reverted to Islam prior to her marriage.
The bench headed by Justice Ali Mohammad Magray directed the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir through director general of police to ensure the safety of the petitioners from being harmed in any manner.
The woman has submitted her own will and negated any kind of external pressure and also submitted her conversion to Islam in front of the authorised persons.
The couple has also produced the date of birth certificates to establish that both are mature and has attained the marriageable age.
To uphold the rights guaranteed by the constitution of India, court directed SSP Budgam and SHO police station Chadoora to ensure implementation of the directions in letter and spirit and also SHO police station Satwari was directed not to take any coercive steps against the petitioners in pursuance of the case if any registered.
