Protests in Bandipora

KL Report

SRINAGAR

Thousands of people gathered in the Main market Bandipora after Friday prayers to protest against not allowing Hurriyat Conference (G) Chiarman, Syed Ali Geeani to visit the town.

Earlier, in the morning Geelani’s Bandipora visit was foiled by authorities and police detained the ailing leader in his residence at Hyderpora.

Reports said that a large number of people gathered in the main market and raised anti-India and pro freedom slogans. They also raised slogans in favour of Geelani.

In the meantime, some youth reached the CRPF camp situated in between Ajar and Khihama and pelted stones at it. The CRPF personnel first retaliated by tear smoke shells and later by counter stone pelting.

The clashes in the area were on when the reports last came in.
