SRINAGAR

Police used tear smoke shells on hundreds of people protesting and preventing the men in uniform to recover the body of slain militant from the debris in Shempora, Qazigund in south Kashmir.

The militant was killed during an encounter which lasted for three hours in the village near Srinagar-Jammu highway on Monday, police said.

“The deceased militant has been identified as Javed Ahmad, a resident of Bulbul Nawgam but his body has not yet been recovered from the debris of the residential house in which he was hiding,” sources said.

The residential house of Ghulam Nabi Parray was damaged during the encounter.

Sources said that men in uniform came with a JCB to recover the body but they had to face severe stone pelting from the protesters chanting anti-India slogans.

They said police resorted to tear smoke shells and the situation was very tense when the reports last came in.
