SRINAGAR
One militant was killed during an encounter which lasted for three hours in Shempora, Qazigund along Srinagar-Jammu highway on Monday, police said.
The deceased militant has been identified as Javed Ahmad alias Salfi, a resident of Bulbul Nawgam.
According to police sources, Javed was an active militant of Hizbul Mujahedeen, a local militant organization.
Local sources told Kashmir Life that the residential house of Ghulam Nabi Parray was also damaged during the encounter.
Earlier, in the morning 9RR, SOG Islamabad and SOG Kulgam had cordoned off the Shempora village after information about the presence of Javed there.
Javed opened fire on the searching party of army and SOG personnel however according to police no one was injured.
