A man with combat dress was found dead in South Kashmir’s Tral town after firing Monday late night. However, police said that it was not an incident of firing between forces and militants but probably “a result of some group clashes.”

Locals told Kashmir Life that they heard firing near Gole Masjid, for a brief period but did not know what happened after. “Forces personnel were around when gunshots were heard,” said a political activist of Tral on the condition of not to be named.

Director General of Police (DIG) south Kashmir, Vijay Kumar confirmed the firing incident and death of one person.

“Firing was heard near Jmia Masjid Tral, one body in combat dress was found on the spot,” DIG south Kashmir said, adding, “5 magazines, 1 Grenade and a wireless set were recovered from the body.”

DIG apprehended the killing may be the result of group clashes. “May be it is a case of group clashes,” he said.

Police spokesman also confirmed the death of a person in Tral after firing but did not identify the deceased. “We are looking into the matter but a body was found after brief firing incident in Tral,” police spokesman said.
