The lone son of a 58 year old Tehreek e Huriyat activist Ghulam Hassan Malik of Guloora Kupwara on Monday alleged that his father has been illegally detained under Public Safety Act (PSA) despite suffering from many ailments.

Hikmat Malik, the lone son of the incarcerated G Hassan Malik, while speaking to Kashmir Life said that on September 4, 2016 his father was arrested from his home in Galoora and was sent to Kot Balwal jail Jammu under public safety act.

He said, however, on March 16, 2017 the PSA of his father was quashed by the J&K high court. But again after being released from the jail, he was arrested outside the jail premises and sent to police station Handwara.

Hikmat said that his father spent 15 days in police custody and was later sent to judicial custody to Sub-Jail Kupwara. On May 11, Malik was again sent to Kot Balwal jail under another Public Safety Act.

Hikmat while seeking his father’s immediate release said, “My father is suffering from many aliments and is on medicines. My father is being punished for his political opinions, Hikmat said.

Pertinently, the house of Malik remains locked since September 2016 as his wife has passed away some years ago and his only son works as an employee in Srinagar. His daughter is keeping up at her uncle’s place.

Meanwhile, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chairperson Syed Ali Geelani has condemned the detention of Malik. He termed the re-arrest of Malik as political vengeance.
