SRINAGAR

Clashes between police and the protesters started on Monday in the Saffron town of Pampore after people came to know that bodies of the slain militants are kept in the local police station.

“People assembled on Srinagar-Islamabad highway and raised slogans and demanding for the bodies of the two militants who were killed after they attacked a National Conference leader in Khrew area,” sources said a day before.

They added that amid anti-India and pro-freedom slogans, people pelted stones on the CRPF vehicles who retaliated by cane charges.

Two militants were killed on Sunday after they attacked Yawar Masoodi’s residence in Khrew. Two security guards of Masoodi were killed in the militant attack.

Forces had later trapped the attackers some three KMs away and killed them after a brief encounter.

Early Monday, as the news about the presence of the bodies of militants spread in the town, people started demanding their bodies.

Police sources told Kashmir Life that some youth pelted stones on the shops and compelled them to shutter down. They added that the situation was under control.
