Unidentified gunmen Monday late evening shot and killed a Congress Sarpanch, his son and a Lambardar (village head) at Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said.
According to Inspector general of Police Kashmir Abdul Ghani Mir all the three were killed by suspected militants.
“The DIG concerned is there monitoring the situation,” Mir said.
Unidentified gunmen opened fire on Mohammad Anwar Shiekh Lambardar, (village head) son of Sadiq Shiekh in village Amlar-Tral at around 8: 30 pm. The gunmen shot him from point blank range outside his residence.
He was shifted to Hospital were doctors declared him brought dead.
After an hour at around 9: 10 the suspected militants shot and killed Congress Sarpanch Ghulam Nabi Mir son of Gulam Hassan Mir at Bategund area of Tral.
Mir had retired as Block Development Officer before being elected to Panchayat. During the shootout, Ghulam Nabi Mir’s son Firdous Ahmad Mir, 24 sustained severe injuries.
Both Ghulam Nabi and Firdous were immediately shifted to the local hospital where they succumbed to injuries.
Meanwhile, Army, Special Operation Group of Police and CRPF has cordoned off both the areas and launched the hunt to nab the suspected attackers.
Pertinently, on April 19, suspected militants had shot dead the PDP activist and Sarpanch Mohammd Amin Pandit outside his residence at Gulzarpora in Awantipore police district of south Kashmir.
