SRINAGAR

Violent clashes erupted in north town of Sopore on Tuesday against the arresting of at least 15 youth during nocturnal raids.

Reports reaching Srinagar said that protesters pelted stones on police in the main Chowk of the town resulting in the tension and chaos.

The protesters were alleging that police raided a number of residences during night and arrested at least 15 youngsters.

Police sources told Kashmir Life that some arrests have been made in the town and the arrestees are involved in the stone pelting.

“Only yesterday the miscreants pelted stones on shops and police hence disturbed the routine life of the commoners, so we have arrested some among them,” they added.

As the news about the nocturnal arrests spread in the morning, a number of people assembled in the main Chowk and demanded the releases of the arrestees. They raised anti-India slogans and pelted stones on police who chased them away by firing some tear smoke canisters.
