Union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad Tuesday cancelled his scheduled election rally in Tral following killing of Sarpanch, his son and a Lambardar last night.

Sources said that the rally has been cancelled in the wake of killings by suspected militants last night. Azad had scheduled a rally to campaign for the coalition candidate Dr Mehboob Maig.

A Congress Sarpanch, his son and a Lambardar were shot dead by suspected militants in two separate incidents in two villages of tral in different incidents.

Pertinently, a PDP Sarpanch was killed in a same kind of incident and in the same area on April 17.

South Kashmir is going for polling on April 24, and police says that militants have geared up their activities.
