People observed shutdown in South Kashmir’s Tral and Kulgam towns against the arrest spree on Wednesday.

Locals told CNS that during nocturnal raids police arrested at least 12 youth from different areas of Tral including Ruthsuna, Lurgam and Pinglish. Reports said that scores of youth took to streets in Tral on Wednesday against these arrests and forced shopkeepers to close their shops.

The reports added that youth resorted to stone-pelting and even pelted stones on shops as a result shopkeepers closed their shops and transport disappeared from the roads.

In Kulgam, people observed shutdown against the arrest of a 20 year old youth Waseem Ahmed Koka who according to police had been arrested on the charges of stone-pelting.
