The six-day-long ‘Shahr-u-Ramadhan’ festival started at the University of Kashmir on Monday.

Organised by the Department of Students Welfare in association with Beeline Services Srinagar, the festival includes competitions in Husn-e-Naat, Husn-e-Qirat, Husn-e-Azaan, Islamic Quiz and Islamic Calligraphy.

Registrar Prof Khurshid A Butt inaugurated the festival and spoke about the importance of holding such festivals. He assured the university’s full support to such endeavors.

Dean College Development Council Prof Neelofar Khan said that Ramadhan festival has been a rich legacy of the DSW.

“This festival is being organized every year and I hope the participants will compete with each other with a positive attitude and bring a sense of unity and appreciation for one another,” she said.

In his welcome address, Dean of Students Welfare Prof GN Khaki deliberated on the philosophy of the holy month of Ramadhan.

On an inaugural day, the Husn-e-Qirat competition was held wherein the participants were adjudged by a three-member jury comprising Prof Sala-ud-Din Tak, HoD Arabic, Mufti Abdul Hameed Nayeemi and Dr Shahnawaz Ahmad.
