As many as 6684 people from Jammu and Kashmir will perform Hajj this year, said minister of Hajj and Awqaf Abdul Rehman Veeri.

In a chat with KNS, the minister said the first batch of the pilgrims will leave for Madina Munawara on July 17 in two direct flights from Srinagar International Airport to Madina. “Till August 21 there will two direct flights to Madina each day from Srinagar International Airport and after that one flight till August 31,” he said.

The minister said the state government has taken up all the issues regarding Hajj Baitulla and the facilities for the pilgrims with Saudi government and said that all facilities would be provided to Hajjis.

He said arrangements for transporting the Hajjis from their respective areas to Airport have been made and in this regard all District Development Commissioners have been made nodal officers in ensuring that Hajjis get proper transport facility to Srinagar Airport on their departure for Hajj and also on their arrival from airport to their homes.

Veeri said the Chief Minister has made serious demands with         Saudi government that Hajj pilgrims be provided adequate facilities. “It is because of CM’s seriousness in ensuring all facilities to Hajj pilgrims in Mecca Mukaramah and Madina Munawarah that Revenue Secretary has been made an Officer on Special Duty who will personally monitor the facilities there,” he said.

Meanwhile, members of state Hajj Committee complained that they were not invited for the meeting of the committee held today. In this regard, the Minister for Hajj and Awqaf, who is also vice-chairman Hajj Committee, said the members were invited in previous meeting. “Today’s meeting was called to review administrative matters, so the Hajj Committee members were not required in the meeting,” he said.
