As many as 6684 people from Jammu and Kashmir will perform Hajj this year, said minister of Hajj and Awqaf Abdul Rehman Veeri.

He said arrangements for transporting the Hajjis from their respective areas to Airport have been made and in this regard all District Development Commissioners have been made nodal officers in ensuring that Hajjis get proper transport facility to Srinagar Airport on their departure for Hajj and also on their arrival from airport to their homes.
Veeri said the Chief Minister has made serious demands with Saudi government that Hajj pilgrims be provided adequate facilities. “It is because of CM’s seriousness in ensuring all facilities to Hajj pilgrims in Mecca Mukaramah and Madina Munawarah that Revenue Secretary has been made an Officer on Special Duty who will personally monitor the facilities there,” he said.
Meanwhile, members of state Hajj Committee complained that they were not invited for the meeting of the committee held today. In this regard, the Minister for Hajj and Awqaf, who is also vice-chairman Hajj Committee, said the members were invited in previous meeting. “Today’s meeting was called to review administrative matters, so the Hajj Committee members were not required in the meeting,” he said.
