SRINAGAR: Officials have reported over 800 fire incidents in the Kashmir Valley this year, with 180 of them happening solely in Srinagar. A senior official from the Fire and Emergency Services Department stressed the importance of caution, advising people to thoroughly inspect their wiring to avert potential short-circuits that might trigger fire outbreaks.

Er Aqib Hussain, Deputy Director of Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), highlighted that Srinagar district has witnessed approximately 180 fire incidents this year, contributing significantly to the overall tally of 800 incidents reported across the valley.

Hussain noted that two deaths and two injuries were reported in these incidents, emphasising the importance of caution, especially during the winter when heating devices are extensively used. He advised adhering to safety guidelines to mitigate risks.

The officer emphasised that many fire incidents result from short circuits and wiring damage, stressing the necessity of regular electrical inspections and the installation of protective measures such as MCBs (Miniature Circuit Breakers) to mitigate potential fire hazards.

Hussain also encouraged individuals to maintain contact details for their nearest fire stations and familiarise themselves with emergency procedures. For those without such contacts, he recommended using the helpline number 101.
