SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has created 899 new posts across various departments since October 16, 2024, while the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) have finalised 7,580 selections during the same period.
The figures were provided by the government in the Legislative Assembly on Monday in response to a question by Handwara MLA Sajad Gani Lone.
The Health and Medical Education Department accounted for the largest share of the newly created posts, with 485 positions, followed by the Housing and Urban Development Department with 266 and the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Department with 82.
The Jal Shakti Department created 43 posts, while the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction added 16.
The remaining posts included three in the Cooperatives Department, two in Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, and one each in the ARI and Trainings and Transport departments.
On recruitment, the government said JKPSC had finalised 1,768 selections and JKSSB 5,812 during the period, taking the combined number to 7,580.
A total of 14,270 vacancies were referred to the two recruitment agencies since October 2024. Of these, 1,852 were referred to JKPSC and 12,418 to JKSSB.
The JKPSC referrals comprised 855 Open Merit vacancies, 198 Scheduled Caste, 166 ST-1, 156 ST-2, 114 Other Backward Classes, 65 ALC/IB, 149 RBA, 139 EWS, four PSP and six ST backlog vacancies.
The vacancies referred to JKSSB included 5,173 Open Merit posts, 1,104 Scheduled Caste, 1,248 ST-1, 1,212 ST-2, 933 OBC, 495 ALC/IB, 1,174 RBA and 1,079 EWS vacancies.
The figures cover the period beginning October 16, 2024, as stated in the government’s reply to the Assembly.
