Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq was assassinated on May 21, 1990 at his Nigeen residence.

In a statement, the AAC recalled that Shaheed-e-Millat, along with other leaders and activists, was arrested for standing up for truth and justice, representing the people’s demands. He was held without trial at Jammu’s Satwari Jail, where he endured solitary confinement and torture for his political beliefs.

The AAC expressed its profound gratitude for Shaheed-e-Millat’s sacrifices, acknowledging his selfless contributions and unwavering leadership. “His sacrifices and commitment to the Kashmiri cause will never be forgotten,” the organisation said, vowing to continue the peaceful struggle for justice and dignity initiated by the late leader.

In addition to honouring the memory of Shaheed-e-Millat, the AAC reiterated its call for the release of political prisoners held in jails both within and outside Kashmir. The group emphasised the humanitarian urgency of reuniting these prisoners with their families and addressing their health concerns, suggesting that such actions could contribute to improving the overall situation in the region.
