Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Friday warned the Government for proposed shifting of the Field Firing Range from Tosamaidan to Yusmarg as it would have serious environmental implications in the area.

In a statement issued here on Friday, AAP National Executive Member Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat said that any plan of the Government to shift the Field Firing Range from Tosamaidan to Yusmarg will be resisted by his party at all levels as this is a matter of safety and security not only of the people of the area but it is an issue which will have serious environmental implications as well.

“There are some media reports that authorities may allocate a large chunk of land near famous health resort of Yusmarg in central Kashmir’s Budgam district   to Indian Army for conducting artillery drills after facing a strong resistance of continuing these drills at Tosamaidan meadow. If this is done we will come on roads along with the locals and would resist this move tooth and nail,” Dr Muzaffar said.

“Government can use uninhabited areas of Drass and Zanskar for conducting such firing exercises, let the areas covered with forests and wildlife be exempted from all these military exercises. Yusmarg and its upper reaches are some of the virgin tourist destinations  of Kashmir, by allowing such exercises the Govt wants to destroy the same,” Muzaffar added.
