SRINAGAR: Erstwhile law minister Abdul Haq Khan in the BJPDP government has survived a heart attack and has been hospitalised, sources said. Khan is a two-time lawmaker from Lolab and has been a cabinet minister earlier.
Khan, sources said, had to return to JK Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today. Early morning, he went to a room to receive a call and quickly had a fall. He was immediately rushed to SMHS hospital where the family was told that the politician had survived a mild heart attack. After basic tests, he has been shifted to some other hospital.
Khan is a Kashmiri politician and lawyer, who served as the Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, and Law and Justice under the PDP-BJP coalition in Jammu and Kashmir. He represented the Lolab constituency in the Legislative Assembly from 2009 to 2018. Born in Diver Anderbugh, Lolab Valley, Khan earned his BA, and LLB from Kashmir University in 1977. Re-elected in 2014, he defeated Qaiser Jamsheed Lone of the National Conference. He has been in politics since 1983.
Khan, 71, resigned from PDP on November 6, 2022, for health reasons. “I want to take a complete rest for the time being,” he had said. “For the past over three years, I have been out of political affairs due to health, and other reasons and I could not find any space for myself in politics where I could contribute.”
