Terming the harassment of a teacher of Delhi Public School, Athwajan for wearing Muslim dress – Aabaya – by the school principal, as interference in religious affairs and personal life of the teacher, spokesperson Jammu Kashmir Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (JKMMU) Saturday condemned the incident.
“The principal should bear in mind that Jammu Kashmir is a Muslim-majority state where such interference and anti-Islam and anti-Muslim measures would not be tolerated,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said, “taking such measures is a clear interference into the religious affairs of the people and that the principals have no jurisdiction on directing teachers against wearing Islamic dress like Abhaya.”
He said the parents and guardians were sending their wards to the school for acquiring better education not for learning dress code and the DPS, where the school administration is asking for hefty sums of money from the parents for the education of their wards and arbitrarily increasing school fee every year, by objecting to the dress code of the teachers is now pushing them toward Westernization, which would have a far reaching consequences.
