The left-hander surpassed Rohit Sharma’s previous Indian record of a 35-ball century, made against Sri Lanka in 2017. Abhishek reached his hundred with 10 sixes and nine fours, taking India to 132 without loss after 8.3 overs.

His innings ended in the 10th over when Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan dismissed him for 108 off 34 deliveries.

The century was Abhishek’s third in men’s T20Is and made him the first batter in the format to record two centuries in fewer than 40 balls. His earlier such innings came against England at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium in 2025, when he reached his hundred from 37 deliveries.

Abhishek’s 30-ball hundred was also the third-fastest century recorded in men’s T20Is. Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan holds the record with a 27-ball century against Cyprus in 2024, while Turkey’s Muhammad Fahad scored a 29-ball hundred against Bulgaria in 2025.

The innings also made Abhishek the fourth Indian batter to score at least three centuries in men’s T20Is.
