SRINAGAR: Police in central Kashmir’s Budgam district have apprehended an absconding accused wanted in multiple cheque-bounce cases and a cheating case registered at Police Station Magam.
The accused, identified as Reyaz Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar and resident of Attina, Beerwah, was traced to Hawal in Srinagar, police said.
A team from Police Station Beerwah, in coordination with Police Station Zadibal, Srinagar, apprehended Dar based on reliable information, according to police.
Police said Dar is wanted in connection with FIR No. 26/2024 registered under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code at Police Station Magam. He was also listed as an absconder by Police Station Beerwah.
The Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Budgam, had issued a warrant against him in connection with proceedings under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, police said.
During the preliminary investigation, police said, Dar allegedly cheated multiple people by gaining their confidence through fraudulent representations linked to gold-related business transactions. He subsequently left the business and remained absconding for a considerable period, police said.
Further legal proceedings are underway in accordance with law.
