The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Saturday announced the awards for the Annual Drama Festival held at Government College for Women, MA Road, Srinagar from June 3 to 11, 2013.

As recommended by the adjudicating jury, the Best Production Award has gone to “Rath Vandai Malinyo” of Kalidas Theatre Group, while as Ayash Arif has bagged the Best Director Award for the same production. Reshi Rashid and Shafia have bagged the Best Actor awards in male and female categories, respectively for their roles in “Phir Thur” and “Rath Vandai Malinyo”.

“Phir Thur” of Roshan Art Centre has also bagged the Best Music and Best Lighting awards while as Best Costumes Award has gone to “Rath Vandai Malinyo” of Kalidas Theatre Group. Irfan Shah and Hilal Shah have jointly bagged the Best Child Artist Award for their role in “Nyay” of Wahab Dramatic Club.

“Phir Thur” has also bagged the Second Best Production and Direction Awards and Tariq Ahmad Wani has received the Second Best Actor award in male category for his role in the same presentation. Second Best Costume and Second Best Music Awards have gone to Dilshad Cultural Forum for “Pagah Sholi Dunyah” and Wahab Dramatic Club for “Nyay”, respectively.

As per a statement Shamima Khushbu, Arshad Bano, Sana-Ullah Khan, Rajinder Tickoo and Khadim Wali have been given the certificates of merit for acting.

The jury, comprised Mushtaq Kak, Showkat Shehri and Mushtaq Ali Ahmad, while  congratulating the winning artists, Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, Khalid Bashir Ahmad, hoped that the awards would encourage them to strive for further excellence. He said that the festival was held in Kashmir after a gap of four years and will now be held regularly as an annual feature.
