ACB Charges 7 SMC Officers, 3 Others Over Illegal Construction in Batamaloo

   

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a chargesheet against 10 persons, including seven officers of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), in connection with alleged illegal and unauthorised construction in Ward No. 28 of Batamaloo near Tiny Hearts School, Tengpora.

The chargesheet in FIR No. 06/2023 registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar was produced before the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, for judicial determination.

According to the ACB, the accused include seven SMC officers and three private individuals. The case pertains to alleged abuse of official position, criminal conspiracy and extending undue benefit to private beneficiaries.

The case was registered following allegations that officials posted in Ward No. 28, Batamaloo, had allegedly abused their official positions and entered into a conspiracy with Reyaz Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rahim Dar, a resident of Tengpora, Batamaloo, to facilitate and allow illegal and unauthorised construction in the area near Tiny Hearts School.

The ACB said its investigation, based on oral and documentary evidence, substantiated the allegations against the accused government officials and private beneficiaries.

The accused have been booked under provisions of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, the Ranbir Penal Code, the Registration of Documents Act and the Evacuees (Administration of Property) Act.

The chargesheet was filed after obtaining the requisite sanction for prosecution of the public servants from the government, the ACB said.
