SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday trapped and arrested Basharat Habib, a Mineral Supervisor posted in the Lasjan-Rajbagh sector of the Geology and Mining Department, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.

According to the ACB, the arrest was made following a written complaint from a local individual who alleged that the officer was demanding money to allow the lifting of minor minerals such as sand in the area. Acting swiftly, the ACB carried out a discreet verification of the complaint, which confirmed the allegations of bribery.

Subsequently, an FIR (No. 11/2025) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended) was registered at the ACB Police Station, Srinagar, and a formal investigation was launched.

A trap was laid, and Habib was caught red-handed while taking the bribe from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The ACB officials arrested him on the spot.

This incident comes just two days after another employee of the same department was apprehended for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in the Safapora area, raising concerns over the scale of corruption within the Geology and Mining Department.
