Accident Near Navyug Tunnel Leaves Two Dead, Three Injured

   

SRINAGAR: At least two people lost their lives, and three others, including a Special Police Officer (SPO), sustained injuries in an accident near Navyug Tunnel (NG-44) in the Qazigund area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday evening.

Officials said an MG Hector vehicle, bearing registration number JK01AL 0707, lost control due to overspeeding and skidded off the road, colliding with a divider and a police barrier near the Navyug Tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. The crash initially left five people injured, including an SPO who was struck near his post.

The injured were taken to Emergency Hospital Qazigund and later shifted to Government Medical College Anantnag for further treatment. Zubair Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Hameed Wani, a resident of Heerpora, Shopian, was declared dead on arrival. Mushtaq Ahmad Dalal, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dalal, also a resident of Shopian, succumbed to his injuries during the night.

The other injured individuals have been identified as Irshad Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Rehman Mir; Umar Bashir Najar, son of Bashir Ahmad Najar, both residents of Shopian; and SPO Showkat Ahmad.

Police have registered a case under section 281, 125(a), 324(4) BNS at Police Station Qazigund Kulgam and initiated an investigation.

This incident follows another accident inside the Navyug Tunnel six days ago, in which 17 people, including the driver, were injured when an SRTC bus overturned.
