A cop has been arrested in Jammu division for alleged rape.
Reports said that SHO Khour police station in Akhnoor, Mohammad Iqbal Chagatta, was arrested for “raping” a girl in custody inside the SHO’s room at police station.
The girl lodged a written complaint and her statement under Section 164 CrPC was recorded before the Munsiff Akhnoor.
“The girl had gone missing with her boyfriend about six months back. Few days later, both had surrendered before Khour police station saying they were adults and have solemnized the marriage,” reports quoting police said.
“However, during custody, the SHO with the help of a female SPO took the girl to her room inside Khour police station and raped her.”
The girl then approached the SDPO Akhnoor with written complaint, who got her statement recorded before the Munsiff Akhnoor under Section 164 CrPC. Thereafter, a case was registered against the SHO, who was arrested under Section 376 and 109 RPC in FIR No. 45/2016 registered at Khour police station.
Police said, “the female SPO, who had helped the SHO in rape, has been detained for questioning.”
Investigations were in the progress, while the SHO has been placed under suspension.
