Minister for Horticulture, Hajj and Auqaf, Abdul Rehman Veeri Saturday assured the House that stern action would be taken under law against the miscreants involved in Udhampur incident that occurred last night. He said three accused have been arrested and a manhunt is on to nab the other miscreants responsible for the attack on a truck which was on its way to Srinagar from Jammu.

This was stated by the Minister in response to the issue of attack on a Kashmiri truck driver near Udhampur on Srinagar-Jammu highway raised by some members in Legislative Assembly here this morning. The members while condemning the incident demanded stern action against the accused, an official statement said this evening.

Giving details of the incident, the Minister informed that last night a group of miscreants assembled near hotel Dolphin in Shiv Nagar area of the district and hurled a bottle containing some combustible material over a Kashmir based truck bearing registration No: JK03D-1142 which was on way from Jammu to Srinagar.

The Minister said the police parties under the command Dy SP headquarter Udhampur and SHO Police Station Udhampur, who were already conducting patrolling in the area, immediately swung into action and rescued the persons namely Showkat Ahmed S/O Ghulam Ahmed Dar R/O Uranhal, Anantnag and Zahid Ahmad S/O Ghulam Rasool R/o Botengu Anantnag. He said the said persons got burn injuries in the attack and the driver namely Rameez Ahmad Bhat R/O Botengu Anantnag escaped unhurt besides saving the truck from any damage.

Veeri said that the injured persons were rushed to the district hospital Udhampur for treatment where from they have been further referred to GMC Jammu for specialized treatment.

The Minister further said that due to the prompt action of police three accused persons namely Bal Bahadur Singh S/o Girdhari Lal R/o Sambal, Sandoor Singh S/o Thakur R/o Sambal and Suneet Singh S/o Pardeep Singh R/o Sambal have been arrested.

Veeri said FIR under Explosives Substance Act has been registered against the said culprits at Police Station Udhampur. He said further investigations in this regard are going on and a manhunt has been launched to nab the other culprits.

The Minister assured the House that stern action under law would be taken against the culprits involved in the incident. He said that Director General of Police is himself going to Udhampur today to ascertain the factual position of the incident.
