The doctor-turned-activist-turned-politician has now stepped into school teacher’s shoes. Known for his newspaper columns, Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat was seen teaching a group of students inside a government school in district Budgam.
“My New Job@Government Primary school Balpora Wathoora distt Budgam,” he wrote on his Facebook profile. “Have decided to give at least 3 days a week teaching these kids who belong to socially and economically backward community locally called Bhaands.”
The primary school, said Dr Bhat, has 40 enrolled students taught by only two teachers. “The most talented boys and girls I have seen. They need slight guidance and care. Otherwise we will loose this asset.” To revamp the government schooling, he said, everyone in the society must spare some time to teach at government schools.
Notably, Dr Bhat shot to prominence through his relentless campaign for RTI movement in Kashmir. He was also a prominent face in the Tosamaidan Bachao Front, the body which fought to end the firing drills at Budgam meadow. Last year, Dr Bhat contested Lok Sabha polls as Aam Aadmi Party’s Central Kashmir candidate. He eventually lost when PDP’s Abdul Hamid Karra emerged as giant killer defeating everybody including the heavyweight, NC patron Dr Farooq Abdullah.
