SRINAGAR: A video showing the use of force by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Baramulla during coronavirus lockdown on Wednesday in the district has gone viral. The officer can be seen beating the men and women with a stick.

The ADC in the video can be seen walking on the streets of Baramulla district along with his staff, mostly sticks in their hands. He can be seen beating the people without enquiring anything from them. The video also shows the officer entering a butchers shop and beating him with a stick.

The display of violence has been hugely criticised. He has been roasted actually on the line. Now people are seeking action against him.

When contacted ADC Baramulla Mohammad Ahsan Mir for the comment, he said that they were lockdown violators. “They were venturing out in the market unnecessarily,” he said. He said that there have been reports in the media that there was no strictness in the lockdown implementation in Baramulla. “We tried to be a little bit strict. But I haven’t beaten anyone. A soft maize stem was in my hand,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla Bhupinder Kumar said that he has taken cognizance of the matter. “It shall be looked into and necessary action will be taken,” he said.
