SRINAGAR: Acting promptly upon the instructions of the District Magistrate Shopian, Choudhary Mohammad Yasin, Geology and Mining Department has seized six tractors, two tippers and two strainers involved in illegal mining of construction material from water bodies in the district, an official statement said.

An official statement said that these machineries were seized and handed over to the concerned police stations and subsequently Rs 1,11,200/= was raised as fine/ recovery from these illegal offenders. Moreover, the tyres of many vehicles were deflated during the raids conducted in night hours.

“These illegal offenders taking undue advantage of the holy month of Ramadhan and lockdown had indulged in such illegal and unauthorized actions but the subordinate staff has been accelerated to nip the menace of illegal extraction in the district,” said the statement.

Further, it is reiterated that this drive against the illegal mineral minor transporters/extractors will be launched more vigorously in the coming days, it said.
