Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir (DHSK) achieved yet another feat when the Neuro-Surgical Unit of JLNM Hospital Rainawari headed by Dr Basharat Kanth successfully performed an advanced cervical spine disc surgery. This is for the first time that such surgery has been done outside a tertiary care hospital in any peripheral hospital.
A 30-year-old male, resident of Srinagar was having severe pain and weakness in her right arm. MRI of Cervical Spine was done that showed Disc Prolapse at C5/C6 and C6/C7.The procedure of Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) was successfully done using PEEK CAGES.
The patient has responded to the treatment well and has significant improvement in relief & weakness and will be discharged soon.
The Operative Team under the supervision of MS JLNM Hospital Dr Nadeem Nazir included Dr Basharat(Neurosurgeon), Dr Nikhat (Anaesthetist),Imtyaz,Umar,Bashir and Bilal (OT Staff).
Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Saleem ur Rehman has congratulated the Hospital Administrator and the Operative Team for achieving this feat.
