Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Baseer Ahmad Khan on Thursday reviewed the working of J&K Power Development Corporation (JKPDC) here at a meeting.

The Advisor took a detailed review of the physical and financial progress, working of the Corporation along with ongoing projects, strategy for harnessing the Hydro Power potential and to make the Corporation a viable profit-earning entity for the UT.

Secretary, Power Development Department, M. Raju, Executive Director, Electric, JKSPDC, Executive Director, Civil, JKSPDC, Chief Engineer, Generation Wing, JKSPDC, Jammu, Chief Engineer, BHEP, General Manager (Civil) JKSPDC, Jammu besides other senior officers of the corporation were present in the meeting.

While reviewing the status of the proposed projects, the Advisor emphasized upon adhering to the timelines for framing of tender documents and other technical reports.  He directed the Secretary to take a periodic (monthly) review of the projects to keep tab on the ground situation and remove stumbling blocks if any. He said it will help to avoid delay and cost escalation. He directed the Managing Director, JKSPDC to finalize the tenders for Lower Kalnai project on Chenab within 30 days.

The Advisor also directed the concerned to complete the tender documents for the eight projects proposed under PMDP within 30 days.

The Advisor directed MD JKSPDC to shortlist and prioritize viable and feasible projects which can be easily borne by the Corporation and complete all the pending paperwork for their early execution. He also enjoined upon the officers to conduct the inspections of ongoing schemes and resolve the bottlenecks, if any.

Earlier, Managing Director, JKSPDC gave a PowerPoint presentation on the energy scenario and hydropower potential in J&K.  He said the UT has 20000 MW of estimated hydropower potential of which only 16475 has been identified on the basin of Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and Indus.

He apprised the Advisor that the JKSPDC owns, operates and maintains 22 Power Projects (13 in UT of J&K and 9 in UT of Ladakh) and the Corporation has an annual return of Rs. 400 Crores. He also apprised the meeting regarding the projects operational as well as in the pipeline.
