Authorities on Saturday placed the incarcerated chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah again under house arrest after keeping him under “illegal” police detention for two months.

In a statement issued to press, a DFP spokesperson said Shah was arrested on February 24 during a night raid and lodged in Rajbagh police station. “The administration didn’t even provide any reason for his arrest and now, after two months, instead of releasing him again placed the pro-freedom leader under house detention.”

“Through such actions, the democratic claims of the so-called government have proven hollow. Its attitude towards the resistance leadership and people is condemnable. There is police and military rule prevailing in the state,” he said.

The spokesperson said Shah has spent most part of his life in jails and interrogation centers but “this didn’t deter him from pursuing his mission and he remained committed to his stand”.

“Since Shah Sahib was released from jail in 2011, he has been under house arrest or in police detention for a period of 31 months and 21 days. During this period, he was barred from offering 192 Friday and 9 Eid prayers,” he said.
