Government on Tuesday removed one of oldest Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bunker at Amira Kadal area of Srinagar.

According to locals, the bunker on the Amira Kadal was erected in 1992, and was presently housed by CRPF.

They added earlier police was deployed there later they were replaced by CRPF and replaced by BSF. Finally, CRPF took over the bunker again.

“The bunker was frequently being attacked when militancy was at its peak,” said locals.

“The decision of removal of the bunker was taken after deliberations between the administration and the government agencies,” sources said.

The removal of the bunker was a long-pending demand of residents of the city.

Meanwhile Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Junaid Azim Mattu said that all the three bunkers at the end of Amirakadal have been demolished and a park will be built there.

“All three bunkers at the end of Amira Kadal Bridge (towards HSH Street) have been demolished and the land cleared. Will be developed as a Park by SMC now and maintained in coordination with the local Dastageer  Sahab (RA) Shrine Auqaf Committee. Well done!,” Mattu wrote on Twitter.
