SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Thursday left for his native village Dorru area of Sopore to visit his daughter who lost her husband after a prolonged illness on Tuesday. Shafeeqa, eldest of his daughters lives in Dooru village of Sopore, also his ancestral village.

Geelani along with other aides left his Hyderpora residence at around 1 pm for Sopore, the amalgam’s spokesperson said.

Geelani has been under house arrest for the past five years and he wasn’t allowed to visit any area. He was not even permitted to the local mosque for Friday prayers.

Now, after his son-in-law passed away, the authorities have permitted him to move out. Ghulam Hassan Makhdoomi, the elder son in law of Geelani passed away on Tuesday at SKIMS Soura after a prolonged illness.
