SRINAGAR

A group of Hajj aspirants, duped by a Srinagar-based travel agency which swindled off money from them and then reneged on its commitment, Monday demanded that their hard earned money be returned.

Hajeej India Hospitality Private Limited took money from them in 2011 under pretext that the agency would facilitate their journey to Hajj. “But the same year, somehow it could not materialize the travel due to some reasons,” said Sajad, one the aspirants.

“Later even a court case happened and the owner testified before the judge that he will finalize the Hajj travel and in case it didn’t happen, he would recompense the aspirants.”

Shabihan Gilkar, the Hajeej India owner, absconded but was arrested by the police.

Recently, he made one more attempt to flee to Dubai but authorities detained him at the IGI Airport in Delhi. “On directions of court, police had confiscated his passport,” Sajad said. “How come did he manage to get a new passport? Does this indicate a failure on part of Regional Passport Office or authorities themselves?”

The aspirants appealed that their hard-earned money be returned and exemplary punishment be meted out to the owner.
