SRINAGAR

Accusing police of “intentionally” fabricating their son in multiple “fabricated” cases related to stone-pelting and murder of a cop, a Palhalan family Saturday said that they were waiting for the release of Nasir Ahmed but little did they know he will be booked under Public Safety Act and shifted to Kathua Jail.

Besides other youth, Nasir Ahmed Ganai alias Nasir Molvi a resident of Palhalan was booked by police for his alleged involvement in stone-pelting that had allegedly caused the death of a police driver.

Head constable Kawlain Singh died after the vehicle he was driving met an accident amid stone pelting clashes near restive Palhalan in Pattan in North Kashmir after Eid prayers in October, 2013. “Nasir was booked under section 307,302,148,149,323 despite the fact he was not present when the police driver lost his control over the vehicle and met with an accident in the time. Unfortunately that time stone-pelting was going on in the area,” the family members of Nasir told CNS. His brother said that from last ten years, Nasir spent nine years in jail. “He was free for a year only and in that year he tied knot to a local girl. He is father of a son and his wife is awaiting his release,” he said.

The family members said Nasir was bailed out by court but instead of releasing him, police framed him under another FIR that had been lodged against him in the year 2010 and accordingly he was shifted to Sub Jail Baramulla. “Our son was framed and lodged in jail just because he is affiliated with Tehreek-e-Hurriyat,” they said adding that on Saturday Baramulla police slapped PSA on him after spending more than two years in jail and shifted him to police station Kathua.

Confirming that Nasir Ahmed Ganai son of Ghulam Muhammad of Palhalan has been shifted to Kathua under PSA, a top police official told CNS that he was a known stone-pelter who attacked the bus driven by the slain cop in 2013. His behavior was not up to the mark in the jail, he said.
