The gardener who was injured during a gunfight between militants and government forces in an encounter on the city outskirts succumbed to injuries, police sources said.

Abdul Gani Mir, 45, son of Mohammad Sultan Mir, a resident of Gundipora Pulwama was injured during the gunfight, the sources added.

Reports said that while evacuating the employees from the building, a bullet had hit him in his shoulder and he was rushed to SMHS hospital Srinagar where he succumbed to injuries.

The body of the slain gardener was still in the hospital while this report was being filed.

Police sources further said that there was no exchange of firing from forces as well as militants sides from last two hours.

The gunfight started after militants attacked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bus on the Jammu-Srinagar highway and then entered into Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) building on the highway when more than 100 trainees and staff members were present inside.
