Curfew has been imposed in North Kashmir’s Handwara town early Wednesday.

Three civilians including an elderly woman were shot dead by forces on Tuesday. Protests had erupted after alleged bid of molestation by an army stationed in Handwara town.

While Hurriyat Leaders across divide have called for complete shutdown, forces have been deployed in large numbers in Handwara while people are not being allowed to move. The angry protestors set ablaze the army bunker where the alleged molestation happened.

Forces resorted to firing killing one youth on the spot, another died on way to hospital and the lady, who was working in her fields, died in SKIMS, Soura Tuesday-Wednesday mid-night.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Iqbal (21), Nayeem Qadir (22)-a talented cricketer and Raja Begum (54).

When contacted DC Kupwara told Kashmir Life this morning, “we have imposed curfew in the town.” “More so, we have ordered a magisterial enquiry in to the incident which will be carried by Additional Deputy Commissioner and completed in a month.”

Doctors completed post mortem of slain Iqbal and Nayeem in Police Station Handwara late Tuesday evening while body of elderly Raja Begum reached her native village in Langate are early Wednesday. All the three are yet to be buried.

Iqbal was hit by a bullet in his head while bullet hit Nayeem in abdomen. Bullet hit Raja Begum’s head and she was rushed to SKIMS where she was unconscious up to 11:50 PM on Tuesday night and later died. She was “brain dead”.

Another youth, identified as Rayees Ahmad was hit by bullet on left side of his chest. Doctors at SKIMS operated upon him for over four hours late Tuesday night. He is stable now. His family members said that he was administered around eight pints of blood. There are almost six bullet injured being administered medicine from Kupwara to Srinagar hospitals.
