J&K High Court Bar Association Saturday condemned the slapping of sedition charges on Prof SAR Geelani and arrest of Kanhaiya Kumar, President JNU Students Union, who too have been booked under sedition for holding protests in Press Club of India and JNU.
Bar Association stated, “neither holding of a peaceful protest to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir is a crime, nor raising of slogans hailing Afzal Guru can invite any criminal action against anyone and no case can be registered against any person on such baseless allegations”.
A statement from Bar said that after the charges against Prof SAR Geelani and arrest Kanhaya Kumar, the Delhi Police have started the “witch hunting” of Kashmiri students who are studying in JNU and have even debarred 8 students from studying in the University.
The statement added that Bar association demands the immediate release Kanhaiya Kumar and also those who have been arrested by Delhi police with them and for stopping the witch hunting of Kashmiri students readying in JNU and also to revoke the order whereby 8 students have been debarred from studying in the University.
