SRINAGAR: A few years after separating from his wife, who happened to be his cousin as well, firebrand leader of National Conference Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi exchanged vows again, this time with an Iranian national. The engagement ceremony as per the reports was held on last Friday.

Talking to Kashmir Life from Iran, without divulging details, Aga confirmed the engagement took place as per Islamic laws and the couple has registered for the further process as per the law of the country.

Himself an influential cleric, Ruhulla’s would-be wife is a scholar. He did not offer any more details invoking his family’s right to privacy.

Known for his blunt stand, specifically post 2019 situation, Ruhullah Mehdi represented Budgam in the erstwhile assembly of Jammu and Kashmir assembly.

As per the reports, the function was a close family affair, details of which are not known. However, reportedly, it was also attended by political figures, diplomats, and well-wishers from both sides.

Pertinent to mention that Ruhullah was earlier married to the daughter of his elder uncle Aga Syed Hassan. Somehow, the two cousins could not manage the union and separated.
