Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference, is continuously under house arrest and he was not allowed to participate in the workers rally scheduled at Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadel on Monday. Mirwaiz led Hurriyat has called for a march to the Eidgah on Tuesday to commemorate his father’s 23rd anniversary. Farmer Mirwaiz and founder of Awami Action Committee (ACC) late Moulana Mohammad Farooq was assassinated 23 years before.

“Mirwaiz Sahab has been put under house arrest and he has not been allowed to participate in the workers rally,” said Shahid-ul-Islam, media advisor of Hurriyat (M).

The Mirwaiz’s movements have been restricted to maintain law and order, a police official said.

The Hurriyat (M) has called for a march to the martyrs’ graveyard in Eidgah area to commemorate the death anniversaries of Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq  and Abdul Gani Lone on May 21.

Late Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq was assassinated in his Nigeen residence on May 21 in 1990 and Lone was killed during a rally in Srinagar on May 21 in 2002.

Sources in the state administration said that the proposed separatist march would not be allowed keeping in view the law and order problem.
