SRINAGAR: Ahead of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson Safina Baigh on Sunday requested to be relieved from her position as the Chairperson of the JK Hajj Committee.
Baigh, in a letter addressed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, expressed her gratitude to the LG administration for entrusting her with the responsibility but explained that the demands of her role in the upcoming assembly elections have made it challenging to continue as the Hajj Committee Chairperson.
“It’s not possible to hold the responsibilities,” Baigh said in her letter, adding that she is currently focused on preparing for the assembly elections.
“I am deeply honoured to have served as the Chairperson of the JK Hajj Committee. Over the past two years, I have dedicated myself to ensuring the smooth and successful management of the Hajj pilgrimage for the people. Under my leadership, the Committee has worked tirelessly to improve the services and facilities for the pilgrims, and to ensure that all necessary arrangements were made efficiently,” it reads.
While confirming the news to KNO, Safina said that, with the upcoming election and the preparation required, it has become difficult to fulfil the duties associated with this role.
“I urge the LG to relieve me of this position and appoint a suitable successor so I can fully dedicate myself to the electoral process,” she said—(KNO).
