Ailing AIP leader Bilal Sultan bailed out

Srinagar

Ailing Awami Itehad Party (AIP) leader Bilal Sultan, 47, was bailed out on Wednesday after over seven months detention.

According to family sources, officials informed them about the release of Bilal on Wednesday late evening.

Bilal was not well and was earlier taken to a psychiatric hospital in Srinagar for a checkup after he showed signs of depression.

In 2019, he contested the Parliament elections in Srinagar against Dr Farooq Abdullah of National Conference and lost.

Bilal and other mainstream leaders including the three former chief ministers—Dr Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti were put under detention on August 5 last year, when the central government abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir (Article 370) and bifurcated the erstwhile State into two Union Territories—J&K and Ladakh.
