The Department of Health in Kashmir Valley is a comedy of errors. While a driver in Gousia Hospital in Khanyar Srinagar with the consent and permission of Medical Superintendent, is being allowed to conduct different important tests of patients, the conspicuous absence of a lady doctor from Public Health Centre, Brein Nishat force compounders to take care of pregnant women.

Scores of attendants and patients Thursday alleged that a blue-eyed driver of Medical Superintendent Gousia Hospital have been assigned the job to conduct test different tests. “The ambulance driver Hilal Ahmed due to unknown reasons conduct important tests and it is irony that Medical Superintendent allows him to do so despite the fact that the said driver is a layman,” one of the patients Mehraj Ahmed told CNS.

“I had gone there for thyroid test and was puzzled to see that the said driver has been entrusted this important job,” he said adding that they have already brought the matter into the notice of Directorate Health Services.

When contacted Medical Superintendent Gousia Hospital, Dr Shaheen told CNS that he has already shifted the said employee. “He is a helper and soon after Director Health Services shot a letter in this regard, I shifted him immediately. He is not conducting any kinds of tests,” Dr Shaheen said.

Meanwhile, locals from Brein Nishat are fuming over the continuous absence of Lady Doctor Nahida Shams from Public Health Centre. Locals have alleged that the said Lady Doctor has been treating the PHC as her fiefdom and she appears at will making pregnant women of the area suffer.

“We have already brought the matter into the notice of the Director Health and appealed him to transfer the said Doctor immediately from the Centre,” they said.

A top official from the Health Department said that action would be certainly initiated in both the cases.
